Hana's Suitcase on Stage Book Cover

Mourning Dove was published in May 2005 by Playwrights Canada Press. And while you can't judge a book by its cover, you can certainly savour the artwork by David Rayfield. Emil hopes the book generates as much debate and discussion as any production might, and invites teachers and educators of all stripes to consider adding Mourning Dove to course reading lists. Copies can be ordered through TheatreBooks, a wonderful bookstore that can be reached at www.theatrebooks.com

Making Waves is a collection of three acclaimed radio plays that explore moral and ethical issues inspired by actual events. Mourning Dove delves into the painful world of mercy killing. Denial is a River showcases the story of one woman's battle against the medical establishment when her husband dies of AIDS following a transfusion of tainted blood. A man of honour is forced to confront a murky episode from his youth in Past Imperfect.

Emil co-edited Prepare to Embark with playwright Shirley Barrie. This collection of six plays for young audiences introduces students to the joys of theatre. The plays range from a mythic past to a sobering future, and feature a range of compelling characters. Africa, a child's bedroom, an impoverished country — Prepare to Embark offers a tapestry of fine plays for readers of all ages.
